Movies - 34 Minute Q&A with "Hostel: Part II" Director Eli Roth

Last week Hostel: Part II was screened to public for the first time and Eli Roth did a question and answer session after the showing. Slashfilm ended up recording the Q&A and posted it on their website (I don't know of any other sites that have a recording of the Q&A). I was never a huge fan of Hostel, which meant I wasn't really too excited for Hostel: Part II, however this little Q&A changed my mind, got me a bit pumped for the film, and made me respect Eli Roth even more than I already did. All these reasons compelled me to post the Q&A from slashfilm here, on top of the fact that Eli Roth is fucking hilarious and definitely has some balls. After listening to it, I have come to the conclusion that Eli Roth is the fucking man, some of his views are just awesome.

"Be warned, Roth does talk about some of the film’s plot points and twists. So if you haven’t yet seen the film, you might want to shy away. Also note that their is a brief pause where our recorder stopped for 30 seconds. Luckily we didn’t miss much."

I wish I would have read that before hand, there were some things said about Hostel II that maybe I would have rather saw for myself before hearing about it, but I do not think it will ruin the movie for you to listen to this, there was only a few scenes discussed, the majority of the Q&A is about things not related to Hostel II. So without further ado, here's the Q&A for your enjoyment:

Movies - Eli Roth Talks "Grindhouse" Sequel

Slashfilm spoke to "Hostel" director Eli Roth about a possible sequel to "Grindhouse," which would be a feature length film based on his "Thanksgiving" faux trailer.

"It would be something I'd do in between projects, but I'm actually writing it with my friend Jeff just to have it ready," explained Roth. "The first Grindhouse cost almost 70 million dollars. So I'm like, we should do it like Dogma 95 and call it Dogshit 2007, where you get half a million bucks and six days and no rehearsals. We'd have to list out crazy rules but we still want to do it. I've talked about doing it as a 45 minute movie with just so many missing reels."

"And I talked to Quentin and Robert. They said 'We gotta f*cking do that man, that will be great!'," added Roth.

Whether this will ever become reality is unclear, but a low budget "Grindhouse" sequel is sure to make its money back, even as a straight to DVD release.
This is a really great idea. It's sad the original Grindhouse movie did so poorly at the box office, and I can see studios being weary about funding another one for that much money, but any studio would greenlight a film like this for two million dollars or so; it's basically guaranteed to make its money back.

Movies - Eli Roth Talks "Trailer Trash"

"Collider was able to grab a few minutes with director Eli Roth (Hostel), who was very vocal about his upcoming projects, including "Trailer Trash."

Apparently, Roth is planning to put together a film completely made out of fake trailers (similar to "Grindhouse"). He didn't reveal how, but he stated that there is a great way to tie them all in together.

"I want to make a movie like 'Borat' or 'Jackass' that's literally completely ridiculous, totally silly and absurd, that's just all fake trailers," said Roth. "I have a genius way to tie it all together so it will actually play like a movie."

In addition, Roth is hoping for a big budget, so he can make these trailers seem like real movies. For help, he has already turned to Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), with several other directors yet to be approached.

As far as his upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel "Cell," Roth believes that he can work on both projects at the same time."

If his 'genius way to tie it all together' works, this could be really really awesome.
