Movies - "Onimusha" scores Kaneshiro as lead

"It’s been reported that Takeshi Kaneshiro has been tapped up to play the lead role in the Onimusha movie. What’s so good about this news is that Kaneshiro is the actor that Capcom have used for the likeness and voice of the main character in their video game of which the film is adapted from.

Perfect.

Add to that, this guy can really act too. He was the lead in The House of Flying Daggers and he appeared in the really cool movie Chungking Express in the mid 90’s.

Christophe Gans, that frustrating French director who keeps threatening to make a good film is helming, and shooting is set to take place early next year… although the film won’t be in our cinema’s until late 2009."

This is really good news. Ever since the very first Onimusha game, they have modeled the character after Takeshi Kaneshiro, who also voiced his character. This is going to make the movie feel very authentic, and on top of that Kaneshiro is a good actor.

Movies - "Silent Hill" Director Does "Onimusha"

"Silent Hill" helmer Christophe Gans is returning to the realm of video game-based movies to direct the big-screen version of the Capcom game "Onimusha," reports IGN. Gans will direct for Samuel Hadida's Davis Films, the production company behind both "Silent Hill" and Gans' "Brotherhood of the Wolf."

"I have loved the 'Onimusha' story for years and am overjoyed to have the opportunity now to bring it to life for worldwide film audiences and to access the unparalleled film resources of China to do so on the scale that the story demands," Gans told ScreenDaily.

"Onimusha" is budgeted at $70 million, with Gans and Davis Films now at the Cannes film festival shopping Onimusha to prospective buyers, with several studios reportedly eyeing the project.

The screenplay is by Leslie Kruger and John Collee (Master and Commander). Filming is slated to commence in China next February for a December 2009 debut.

Onimusha is set in 16th century Japan and follows a young warrior who battles demons as he sets out to save the woman he loves.

Silent Hill wasn't a very good movie, yet it was filled with superb visuals and amazing cinematography, which atleast made it nice to look at. Gans' movies tend to be visually amazing but lack in the story department, it would be nice if we see both amazing visuals and a great plot this time around. I'm a big fan of Capcom's Onimusha video game series on PS2 and I hope this film doesn't fail to deliver, since many video game movies tend to suck.
