Music - New Smashing Pumpkins Video - "Tarantula"

"In which we learn for what those green screens were to be used: to more easily incorporate faux-Pumpkins without Billy having to meet-and-greet 'em; so an array of Mac screen savers could rule the horizon line; and so that Billy can shoot frickin' lasers out his eyes, seamlessly and without looking bizarre and eccentric just for the sake of it (wouldn't want that). Don't worry, there's something for the old-school Billy lovers, too! Take it to 3:21 for a one-second shot of Corgan sans shower curtain. (via AOL's Spinner site)"

Love the song, though I'm not sure about the video. Oh well, enjoy the new Smashing Pumpkins single above.

Music - The Smashing Pumpkins Rock

Two new official Smashing Pumpkins videos were released on YouTube the other day. No, not new music videos for a new single or anything, but two new montages promoting their new album in a way and basically just showing how much The Smashing Pumpkins just simply fucking rock, enjoy.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Paris, France May 22, 2007

The Smashing Pumpkins return!!! This is the first of many official videos giving a glimpse at the return of this quintessential band to the alternative music world. Set to the song "Tarantula", which will appear on their forthcoming album "Zeitgeist" in stores July 10th, 2007. Filmed in Paris, France at the Grand Rex.
Smashing Pumpkins Promotion Montage

The first video is the first official video released by The Smashing Pumpkins taken from their first show in 7 years, showing them rock at the Grand Rex in Paris, France on May 22, 2007. The montage is set to the song "Tarantula" from their new album. I had posted a bit back a video from this show of them playing a new song from the album as well as the full setlist of the show, check it out here.

The second video is a montage put together by Warner Bros. Records showcasing some old material mixed in with some new stuff, basically just showing how much they rock and why you should pick up the new album, I definitely know I am.
The Song Sequence to the second video I believe is as follows:
jellybelly
geek usa
bury me
cherub rock
disarm
tonight, tonight
ava adore
doomsday clock
tarantula

The last two songs would be the new stuff. These new videos just got me even more pumped for the new album, it's sounding good so far. I can't wait for them to release more footage from the Grand Rex concert as well as the new album in general.

"Radio rips are bad for your ears. If you're jonesing to hear the new Smashing Pumpkins song, take a listen to this clean, non-radio-rip version of the new single 'Tarantula.'"
Here's a stream of "Tarantula", the first single from "Zeitgeist." Simply press play below. Much higher quality than the youtube vids that I have seen floating around, and other high quality copies are getting removed almost as soon as they go up. Much thanks to Spinner.

Music - Smashing Pumpkins Unveil 'Zeitgeist' Cover

"The Smashing Pumpkins have enlisted artist Shepard Fairey to create the artwork for their first album in seven years, "Zeitgeist," due July 10 via Martha's Music/Reprise. The red-dominated cover image depicts the Statue of Liberty drowning, while the typeface mirrors that used on the Pumpkins' debut single, 1990's "I Am One" b/w "Tristessa."

"I think global warming is an issue that is currently relevant, time sensitive, and a symptom of the shortsightedness of the U.S.," Fairey says. "As a broader metaphor, the drowning Statue of Liberty, a revered icon of the U.S., symbolizes the eminent demise of many of the ideals upon which the nation was founded. Civil liberties, freedom of speech, privacy, etc. have been decreasing since 9/11. The sun in the image could either be setting or rising and this ambiguity shows that there is still hope to turn things around."
As for Fairey's use of red, he says, "I use red frequently because it is a visually powerful, emotionally potent color. Red gets people's attention. In this case there is the added possibility that the red liquid could be blood, giving it an even more sinister sense of foreboding."
"Tarantula," the first single from "Zeitgeist," hits U.S. radio outlets on May 22. A brief sample of the track can be heard by clicking hear.

According to Wikipedia:
"Zeitgeist" is The Smashing Pumpkins' official sixth album (excluding Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music, freely distributed via the Internet). German for "Spirit of the Age," it is set to be released on July 10, 2007, although the album was going to be released originally on July 7. It will be the first official album to be released under the Smashing Pumpkins name since 2000, and the first new material to be released since two of its original members, vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, reunited in 2006. Of the other three one time band members, guitarist James Iha and bassist Melissa Auf der Maur have stated they are not involved, and it seems unlikely that bassist D'arcy Wretzky will return either.
Zeitgeist's track listing is:
1. "Doomsday Clock" - 3:41
2. "7 Shades of Black" - 3:15
3. "Bleeding the Orchid" - 3:58
4. "That's the Way (My Love Is)" - 3:44
5. "Tarantula" - 3:47
6. "Starz" - 3:41
7. "United States" - 9:50
8. "Neverlost" - 4:13
9. "Bring the Light" - 3:35
10. "(Come On) Let's Go!" - 3:15
11. "For God and Country" - 4:51
12. "Pomp and Circumstances" - 4:18
